Their Big Win

1880% increase in revenue MoM

Family owned Lawn, Garden and Pet Superstore, Zamzows, partnered with Mason Interactive to update their website, improve their eCommerce capabilities, and revamp their brand identity. With the help of Mason Interactive, Zamzows launched a brand new Shopify store and lawncare program page and saw an 1880% increase in revenue MoM from the launch of the program page. With proper care and attention their garden is now flourishing.

Zamzows was founded in 1933 by August and Carmelita Zamzows, offering hand-mixed feed during the Great Depression. Today, Zamzows has expanded to 13 brick and mortar locations. The store now carries hundreds of products, expanding their catalog from feed to a wide range of pet care products, and adding lawn and garden care. Today, the store remains family owned and operated by the great grandchildren of August and Carmelita.

Their Goal

A better customer experience

Because their existing site was not meeting their goals, Zamzows needed an updated visual identity and eCommerce experience. The goal was to not only sell individual products on the online store, but also enable customers to easily find the nearest store location for order pick-up, and boost their subscription model focused on lawn care.

Mason Interactive was tasked with establishing the Zamzows visual identity and improving the user experience of the new Shopify website. After in-depth market and user research analysis, Mason curated 4-5 personas for the Zamzows target audience. Mason Interactive was then able to develop a messaging strategy that would provide a human-first approach to the copy and content for the new website. During this research period, the Mason team also collected user behavior data on the existing Zamzows website to identify opportunities for improvement and understand user behavior.

Mason Interactive used the data from this analysis to inform a visual identity revamp for Zamzows. To ensure that the brand look and feel remained consistent throughout the new website and across all channels, Mason Interactive strategically designed a new, all-encompassing brand style guide.

With a new visual identity established, the Mason team selected a Shopify theme that adhered to Zamzows’ large catalog and specific business goals, including the ability to choose specific store locations for pick-up, and advanced filtering options.

Next, Mason built a wireframe that ensured the hierarchy of information presented on the website created a seamless user experience from the homepage to checkout and everywhere in between. Then the team used the newly developed visual identity and brand copy to perform the final buildout of the new Shopify website.

Their Success

A Perfect Package

Mason Interactive’s strategic approach to branding and website ideation helped position Zamzows to meet their local customers needs with a streamlined online shopping/browsing experience. Applying this customer centric approach to design, they sold 300 of their highest value lawn care subscriptions within the first week of launching phase 2 of the site update, this resulted in a 1880% increase in revenue MoM. The strategic approach to branding and website design from Mason Interactive’s Creative department made for an improved UX that has helped increase revenue for the family-owned business.

1880% increase in revenue MoM

"From the beginning, the teams at Mason Interactive made a concerted effort to get to know our team members, understand our 90 year old business, and internalize our goals. Through their market study of our area and conversations with our team members, they designed and launched a website that exceeded our expectations. Mason also helped us launch an online purchase option for our yearly lawn care program. This program is a major part of our business and upon its release we saw incredible growth in our online sales and made purchasing this program easier for our customers.”
